In and around the museum, you can learn about the history of the Jyrka Ironworks in a magnificent and natural setting. The village of Jyrkä was once built around the ironworks and in the area around the Ruukki Tuva you can still get a sense of 19th century history. We also organise guided tours of Ruuki, where you can get beneath the surface with stories from the 1830s to the 2020s.
A big thank you to Mirja, Marjo and Jouko Vornase for the summer 2024 art exhibition.
Coming 17.5-31.8.2025:
Tuija Nissinen
The painter of the sky shore and the bride of the storm
Tuija grew up in the embrace of the shores and islands of Lake Saimaa. Where it was equally important for a child to learn to swim and walk. Even then, water, the ever-changing lake landscape and the skyline were the elements where one could stop, feel oneself and recharge for the new day. Drawing, painting and making up stories were Tuijja's passion. Tuija dreamed of a career as an artist, but lacked the courage to apply for training in the field.
The brush was left gathering dust for decades, and the next time she picked it up, it was no longer in her hand. However, osteoarthritis did not extinguish the spark that had been ignited. The painter's rollers and thick-handled brushes, as well as his own hands, took the place of the brushes. The dream of a career as an artist had given way to working on his own rough life. Each painting is a journey to the past and back. Back with more integrity than before.
